OMICRON FORCES CANCELLATIONS

2022 has not started as positively as we’d hoped!

The decision by the Western Australian government to keep their borders closed beyond the previously scheduled February 5 re-opening date means we’ve had no choice but to cancel our seasons of This Is Your Trial and All Day Breakfast at Perth FRINGE WORLD.

This decision has left us devastated. FRINGE WORLD had worked so hard for us to schedule our seasons to after the February 5 date, as we’d initially plan to run in the first week of the festival.

An extra blow is that the WA government had put in place an insurance/compensation scheme for artists - but it only applies to local lockdowns, NOT border closures. Given that the WA government changed its plans due to Omicron, we believe it’s reasonable to ask that compensation be considered due to Omicron throwing a spanner in the works.

Act React’s Natalie Bochenski spoke to Scenestr about the impact the announcement would have on artists who’d been working in good faith to perform after February 5.

Unfortunately, we have been forced to cancel our planned season of Speed: The Movie, The Play at Adelaide Fringe in Feb/March 2022. Taking this show to Adelaide Fringe has been a longheld dream - but with venue capacities reduced due to the risk of Omicron, the show would lose money. As many of you know, Speed: The Movie, The Play takes place mostly on an actual vintage bus, meaning we only have 40 people per performance.

Audience caps of 50% or 75% represent a very real drop in our potential revenue, whereas all of our flight, accommodation, and production costs stay the same. It was a terrible decision to make, and we are sorry to Adelaide friends who were keen to see the show. We are now looking to 2023.

The good news is that All Day Breakfast with Sophie and Thien is still going ahead at Adelaide Fringe! Check out this charming pair of musical comedians if you’re in the City of Churches.
